Digital _ Native

A video piece, 3D installation and VR experience from 2020 by Nadia J. Armstrong

Digital Native (2020) is about humans and their devices. It interrogates technology’s encroachment upon the ordinary and looks at the raw complexities of experience in the newfound data nation. The work reflects upon how easily fantasies surrounding digital tools can be hijacked by networks of control to warp and influence our understanding.

Digital Native is a performance and video experience that lives at the intersection of the virtual and the real. The piece gives voice to the new identities and agendas that inhabit the digital sphere. It does not look directly at the narrators of digital deceit, but instead, the work looks internally, reflecting on the experience of the individual that sits in front of the screen.

Digital Native asks questions rather than provides answers: what does it mean to inhabit new virtual spaces? How do they influence us, inhibit us or liberate us?
